Nous rassemblons des chercheurs et encourageons le débat sur des sujets appartenant au domaine vaste et complexe des pratiques rituelles de la préhistoire et de la protohistoire, en mettant l'accent sur l'archéologie funéraire et l'étude des lieux de culte.

La commission traite largement des vestiges et des processus archéologiques appartenant au milieu culturel eurasien au sens large, mais nous nous sommes concentrés plus étroitement sur l'Europe orientale et centrale, la péninsule balkanique, la Grèce et l'Anatolie occidentale, en tant qu'espace de premiers contacts et interactions pour les peuples. à l'âge des métaux, dans le contexte de formations étatiques et pré-étatiques émergentes. Nos approches placent l'archéologie en relation avec l'histoire, les sciences sociales et naturelles.

Nous organisons des rencontres internationales et publions leurs actes depuis 1993, sur des thèmes tels que les tombes tumuli, les contacts culturels régionaux et suprarégionaux exprimés dans le domaine mortuaire, les hiérarchies sociales, l'imagerie et la symbolique dans le discours funéraire, l'inventaire funéraire comme marqueur de statut, les sépultures anormales. , placement des morts dans les limites des agglomérations, dépôts et pratiques de déposition, sacrifices humains et animaux, relations entre agglomérations, nécropoles et lieux de culte, sanctuaires de montagne, etc.

Au total, 20 volumes en différentes langues ont déjà été publiés, rassemblant plus de 200 auteurs. Ces événements internationaux étaient soit des réunions de la Commission de l'UISPP, soit des sections organisées au sein de congrès plus larges par les membres de la Commission. Nous traitons largement des vestiges et des processus archéologiques appartenant au milieu culturel eurasien au sens large, mais nous nous concentrons en particulier sur l'Europe de l'Est, la péninsule balkanique, la Grèce et l'Anatolie occidentale, en tant qu'espace de premiers contacts et interactions pour les personnes au cours de la période du Métal. Âges, dans le contexte des formations étatiques et pré-étatiques émergentes.

Nos approches placent l'archéologie en relation avec l'histoire, les sciences sociales et naturelles. Nous valorisons également les résultats de la recherche interdisciplinaire dans le domaine funéraire au moyen de l'archéologie du paysage, de la télédétection, des enquêtes géophysiques, des analyses statistiques des données funéraires, des études anthropologiques et archéométriques. Cet organisme scientifique a également soutenu, au cours des trois dernières décennies, par l'expression de l'opinion publique et l'expertise professionnelle, la recherche archéologique internationale conjointe sur plusieurs sites funéraires importants d'Europe de l'Est.

Nous visons également à faciliter la mobilité des jeunes chercheurs, notamment d'Europe centrale et orientale, et à leur offrir la possibilité de participer à des enquêtes de terrain ou à des événements internationaux.
